Set in 1980, The Cop Reporter by PJ Jones is an immersive women’s novel that follows the life of Abilene-based reporter, Kat Coe. When Kat is transferred from San Angelo Standard-Times to Abilene Reporter-News, she views it as a great opportunity to grow and leave her life in San Angelo behind. While covering the case, Kat meets the handsome Detective Callahan whom she finds infuriating. Determined to protect her reputation and her heart from another devastating heartbreak, Kat tries to keep her emotions in check despite her growing attraction to Callahan. As their love grows, Kat is forced to choose between holding on to her past and embracing her new journey with Callahan.

PJ Jones creates a breath-taking romance wrapped in a captivating mystery. Brilliantly executed, the novel is a moving story about healing and love. Descriptions of what law enforcement and journalism were like in 1980 add depth to the novel. I found the characters finely drawn and loved that they felt realistic and were intriguing. The Cop Reporter by P. J. Jones is a thrilling read for fans of women's fiction, romance, suspense, mystery, and crime drama. Kat Coe is a police reporter for the Reporter-News in Abilene, Texas. Kat believes in the core principles of this demanding and dangerous profession. She works hard not only to make a name for herself but also to serve people's interests. Kat meets the handsome Detective T. J. Callahan while covering the arrest of a suspect in the terrifying murder of a woman with a high social status. Both are attracted to each other, and Kat starts having vivid dreams about T. J. Yet Callahan's reputation as a heartbreaker scares her. Will Kat allow herself to fall in love with T. J.?

In The Cop Reporter, P. J. Jones reveals the intricacies of the newswoman's profession in the 1980s. The author demonstrates deep knowledge of the subject and makes the newsroom, with all its contagious energy, come alive. It is a multi-genre book. Jones combines the story of the appealing female protagonist with an endearing romance and an enthralling element of mystery. The fast development of events excellently conveys the news reporter's way and perception of life. Kat is an inspiring main character. She is highly professional in her work. It seems that nothing can intimidate her. Kat boldly meets and talks with people considered dangerous. Yet she becomes insecure, facing the prospect of losing her heart to T. J. Callahan. I like that the astute detective uses investigative skills to understand why Kat feels that way. I recommend this novel to readers who respect the brave people risking their lives in the line of duty and want to learn more about news-making.

The Cop Reporter is a work of fiction in the romantic suspense, crime, and mystery subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience and contains some moderate instances of strong language. Penned by author PJ Jones, the plot follows Kat Coe, a determined newspaper reporter who relocates to Abilene to start afresh after her failed marriage. While covering the murder of a wealthy socialite, Kat finds herself drawn to the police detective on the case, Detective Callahan, despite warning signs of his troubled past. Set in 1980, the novel explores Kat's journey of rediscovering love and navigating the complexities of relationships.

Author PJ Jones has crafted a nostalgic journey back to the 1980s that’s filled to the brim with suspense, romance, and intrigue. I was most impressed with the character development, particularly in the close narrative viewpoint that allows us deep into the heart and mind of our protagonist. Kat's struggles with love and trust are relatable, and her dynamic with Detective Callahan is brought to life with some truly brilliant dialogue exchanges that both characterize the central relationship and move the plot forward in a natural way. The tension between them, fueled by attraction and suspicion, simmers along nicely with the mystery plot and both are well-paced to converge and excite readers at just the right moments. Jones expertly blended elements of romance and mystery with strong atmospheric descriptions and a great sense of tone, creating a captivating tale of second chances and the search for eternal love. Overall, The Cop Reporter is a delightful read that will transport fans of the mystery genre to another time while exploring timeless themes of love, faith, and redemption.
