Yesterday Boomer had a bad day. He was late for school, almost missed the bus, had his breakfast pastry and lunch accidentally smushed on the sidewalk, and endured bullying for showing up in pajamas. But today's morning is much better. After waking up early, he boards the bus safely and without incident. Everything seems to be going well until he goes to English class. Miss Hornbuckle, his teacher, who is usually cheerful and greets each child as they enter, stands motionless with her back to the room. Concerned, Boomer goes up front. There, he finds Miss Hornbuckle twitching awkwardly. Without warning, the teacher lets out a blood-curdling growl and turns to face the room in a savage fury! The kids run out of the room in a mad dash toward the hallway. But a group of teachers and faculty members come down the hall, their mouths impossibly large with sharp, ragged teeth and eyes bulging with rage. Are Boomer and his friends going to survive the gang of wild adults bearing down on them? Read The Claiborne Elementary Files by Kip Keith to find out.
The cover design of this book is well done and draws the reader's attention. The colors are eye-catching, and the centrally located old school, with its doors locked and surrounded by dark skies, promises the reader a treat of terror and suspense. With well-crafted sensory descriptions that are vivid, Kip Keith draws you deep into the scene to experience the surrounding tale. I found myself praying that the kids had left the hallway door open, in case the zombified teachers and staff gathered on the lawn turned savage again and attacked. Keith does an exceptional job with character development and everyone will find their favorites. My favorite character is Carla. Though her legs don't work and she has to get around in a wheelchair, she decides she will be the best wheelchair kid ever. She has a beautiful smile and never fails to flash it to her friends, even when adversity threatens to take over.
The Claiborne Elementary Files achieves an excellent standard of storytelling and adventure that will suit teenagers. It is an easy-to-read, intense, spellbinding story incorporating mystery and science fiction. Given the fact that the villains are still on the loose, there is a lot for readers to look forward to. If you are searching for a new series packed with thrilling and captivating adventures for your child, look no further!
