"The Circle: Book One of the Sidhe" by Cindy Cipriano is a great children’s book about faery folk. A faery family live among the humans in the non-magical world as book store owners and a student. Calum is getting ready to enter middle school as a 6th grader. Calum is searching for his cousin who disappeared. When he meets a human girl who has a secret of her own at the book store he is not happy to begin with. Together they find connections and will join with others trying to solve the mysteries involving man and the Otherworld.
The first in a series, it is a complete book by itself, but leaves the reader wanting to find out more about the characters and what happens to everyone. It has been written with understanding of the thoughts and actions of preteen and early teens, with a dash of the supernatural. Cindy Cipriano writes a flowing story that moves smoothly from realism to magical and back to the world of man. It takes the reader along for an introduction to a new world. It is a dash of fantasy to enliven a children’s tale of growing up, accepting the changes that come with growing up and the responsibilities that effect everyone, faery or human. Enjoyable and believable, a great book for the reader that is expanding their reading material and imagination all at the same time. Cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out!
