The Chronothon by Nathan Van Coops is the second book in the author's time travelling series, but you can easily read the book as a stand-alone. I decided, however, to read In Times Like These before starting with The Chronothon, and did not regret it at all. While not necessary, it does help you to get an even better connection to the characters, and I would wholeheartedly recommend reading both books. Each of them is excellent!
But what is The Chronothon about? It is a story about a time traveller who got himself into a bit of trouble by signing up for a Chronothon - a race through time. Unfortunately, Ben Travers soon finds out that he signed up for more than just an innocent race. Some of the travellers do not make it from one stage to the other, and Ben also has to deal with some rather life threatening situations. The race takes him to ancient times and to the far future. Will he be able to get back to a normal life and save the lives of some people?
I enjoyed reading this book and In Times Like These immensely. Nathan Van Coops has clearly put a lot of thought into his novels, and it's the first time that a time travelling book made me think about space as an issue in addition to time - i.e. will you be at the same location when you travel backwards or forwards in time? After all, our planet moves, the whole universe is on the move! It is not only an exciting page turner, but you can also learn a few things. A great read. I hope for more!
