From a young age, Erin had always known she was different from the other reindeer in the herd. She did not fit in and did not want to. The Christmas Quest by David Serra is about Erin's life-changing adventure. Erin always wondered about Santa's sleigh and his reindeer. As she gets older, her curiosity grows with her. While wandering in the forest, Erin comes across Comet, one of Santa's reindeer, stuck in a tree. Erin manages to get Comet to safety and away from the tree, but unfortunately, a grizzly bear tries to end his life. Erin saves Comet's life, and when word of her bravery reaches Santa and his wife, they invite Erin to visit them. On her visit, Erin gets more than just a reward for her bravery, but a priceless gift from Comet.
The Christmas Quest is a unique tale about bravery and courage. David Serra has created a beautiful story of selflessness and unconditional sacrifice, and this corresponds with the message of Christmas so well. Erin is a relatable character with a great personality, helping Comet without question and expecting no reward for her actions. This is a good example of what the world needs today. I loved reading this book not only because of the message but for the incredible writing as well. The conversations were well-paced and easy to understand and follow. All the characters had distinct personalities and were lovable. I recommend readers add The Christmas Quest to their festive season reading list.
