The Cat Who Lost His Meow, written by Casey Williams and illustrated by Vova Kirichenko, is an adorable tale of a homeless cat and her kittens. A kindhearted family picks them up and takes them to a shelter where they can be cared for and adopted out to their forever homes. With all the kitties cleaned, dried and named, a young man comes in to find a furry friend to take home. The young man picks Perry, the kitten with an old soul. He watches Perry feed, play and grow into a beautiful, full-sized cat. How does a cat’s behavior change as they mature? How do you introduce a new pet into the home? Will Perry be happy if the young man gets married? What if a baby is brought into the home too? How does a cat’s heath change as they grow and how can these ailments be managed? How do you say goodbye to a beloved pet when their time is over?
The Cat Who Lost His Meow by Casey Williams has an honest, heart-warming, loving and educational plot that takes the reader through the lifespan of a feline who started out as a homeless kitten on the streets. The characters are well developed, a wonderful array of people who go through the actions of nurturing Perry from kitten to elderly cat. The illustrations by Vova Kirichenko tell the story in beautiful, bright colors that will keep kids captivated while they read and learn how to properly care for and rescue animals. I love the story because it explains how a cat’s natural behaviors change as they age, how important it is to take them to a vet when they become sick and that it is okay to say goodbye when the cat’s life is over. I recommend this story to anyone with children, especially if there are pets in the home, because it will help give them a good idea of how much responsibility and love goes into caring for a pet.
