We all know that cats have minds of their own, as well as quirky and out-of-the-ordinary personalities, which is what makes them so lovable. The Cat Who Ate The Moon by Giulietta M. Spudich is a beautiful story about a cute little black cat who was adopted. His new humans took him home and the cute cat curled up on the bed as soon as he got in. Nothing out of the ordinary; cats do that quite often. However, what the cat did next baffled his new owners – the cute little black cat suddenly started sleeping upside down! His fangs were a bit longer than normal, and one evening, amazing black bat wings grew out of his back! Is this a cat or a bat? And where is he going? The answer soon came when the cat, or bat, headed toward the moon! He grabbed onto the moon as ferociously as he could, and he started to chomp on it! What will happen next? Will the cat-bat come back and will the moon survive?
Giulietta M. Spudich wrote a very cute, fun story about a cat and the phases of the moon, depicting an eerie mood and the spooky atmosphere with ease and using rhyme. This makes the story both rhythmic and fast-paced as the events unfold. Spudich also included a handy short guide about the different phases of the moon, giving the book an educational feel. Colorful and vivid illustrations created by the talented Niem Tran completely round out the story, making the cat even more adorable. The Cat Who Ate The Moon is a recommended read for children and their parents, and I am sure they will all enjoy this adorable, special, and just a little bit spooky cat adventure.
