For the dogs that comprise the pack of the Forest of the Forsaken, it is a brutal existence where the difference between life and death could be as simple as failure to pay heed to instructions. Their leader, Kai, rules the pack with an iron fist which all must obey, but some are unhappy with his ways and seek a change. Chiara, his mate, did not wish for her pups to become victims of Kai's cruel methods of selecting a successor and eventually escaped but not without suffering casualties. Even though time has passed and Kai is now a distant memory, the consequences of his adherence to the ancient ways are about to wreak havoc in the pack as a long-forgotten prophecy looms large in Abrianna Lanza's The Captured Savior.
An unusual story plays itself out in Abrianna Lanza's novel. Interestingly, The Captured Savior may be a novel based on dogs, but the scenarios that appear in the story apply to human beings perfectly. The characters are uniquely thought out, with the principal characters' origin stories subtly highlighted, making understanding the overall story arc easy and enjoyable. Following the conversations between the characters closely is key to unraveling the subplots. I kept wondering how the developing emotional triangle between Darcio, Zerrin, and Amara eventually affected Ewan and Rona, seeing how the culture of the pack had been in place for so long. It ticks all the boxes for an entertaining reading experience that readers will enjoy, as I did.
