Ever have one of those days where a fly or another type of insect seemed to be following you around, being an annoyance during every activity, and no matter how many times you swatted or shooed it away, it just kept coming back? The Bug Came Back by Stacie Morrell offers young children a chance to view brightly colored pictures while reading a humorous rhyming text. The author introduces young readers to the experience of being pestered. The brightly colored pictures, rhyming text, and funny plot allow this story to reach out and grasp a child's attention. The book also offers children a sense of routine. For example, throughout the book, a reader will follow the character's entire day as they are being pestered by a fly. A child may be able to relate their own daily routine to that of the character's in the book. Although the character ignored the problem all day while it bothered them, in the end they could no longer ignore it and had to make a decision. This teaches a young reader that it is easier to deal with a problem right away than have it bother you the entire day before making a decision about what to do about it.

Stacie Morrell has written an amusing book that most adults and children can relate to one way or another as they think about a pesky fly that has bothered them throughout their own day. I enjoyed the rhythm of the story, the colorful illustrations, and the humorous plot. A ‘just for fun’ kind of read for young children.
