The Brave little Misha: Escape by Gabriel McMichael is an illustrated children's story about a small dog that was being mistreated, so he ran away to escape the dangerous situation. Misha started to live on the streets, but quickly realized that street life was not fun or safe. Other dogs and cats lived on the streets, but the little dog was too afraid to talk to anyone, so he sat alone. The dog was scared and unable to trust anyone so when the dog catcher came to save him from the streets, he was hysterical and didn't know how to respond. However, the man in the truck made him feel safe as they took a ride to a new place. Although Misha didn't know where he was going, it had to be better than living on the streets, all alone and hungry.

This story started off very grim, but as I read it to my daughter, she wondered what would happen to the sweet puppy that had no home. This story was simple enough for my two-year-old to understand and the illustrations were definitely cute! At the end of the story, Misha is adopted by a great family and started to love and trust his new owners. This story is a lovely lesson for small children that bad situations don't always end badly. The smile on the puppy's face at the end was the best part of the entire story!
