"The Boy Who Walked a Way" by Nancy Janes takes us to the year 2162 where a young boy named Jal Valhyn is caught in the middle of chaos and violence. The country he lives in is at war and the world government with a basis in humanistic principles of peace has fallen. Jal is alone and seemingly helpless when suddenly he has a chance encounter with a being that is invisible. This encounter starts him out on a 7 day journey. Jal will not be on this journey alone; rather he has two companions who are appointed to support him and they set out for a safe haven that is far away from the violence and chaos that has surrounded him.
This is a very interesting concept for a book and had me thinking about a lot of different things as I read. I cannot say that I blame Jal one moment for walking away from all the chaos and turmoil. He really does take a journey of faith when he decides to go away on that walk. Don't we all have those moments especially with how things go in today’s society where we would like to do the same? I think no matter where your core values are based this book will appeal to you on a faith level. Nancy Janes has created an interesting story that is both complex and simple. I would recommend this book to adults and young adults who like to think while they read and enjoy a good story.
