Author Biography

Eve Penrose is an author and a storyteller. She formerly held a security clearance and enjoys all things of international intrigue. Her craft and her active imagination provided plenty of fodder for the plot and characters in her debut novel, THE BLUE PRUSSIAN. Eve also had thallium poisoning, for which she took the antidote, Prussian blue. While The Blue Prussian is a work of fiction, that fact is all too true. Eve lives in Manhattan and is currently writing the sequel.

The Blue Prussian is a sleuth mystery thriller by Eve Penrose. Blake O'Brien is a highly successful executive working for a green energy company. Recently divorced from her toxic ex-husband, Milton Oxley, Blake's life turns upside down when she discovers that she has been slowly poisoned with thallium, whose only antidote happens to be Prussian blue, a synthetic pigment used in paintings. Blake immediately suspects Milt, and with the help of her friends Jude and Bex, an MI5 agent, she begins to investigate Milt's past and his obsession with the Victorian era. Soon, the FBI gets involved, and together, they uncover cases of more victims that point toward Milt being a serial killer. Now, Blake and her friends must gather the evidence to put The Blue Prussian behind bars, once and for all.

The Blue Prussian is a gripping sleuth mystery with psychological thriller overtones. This is not a whodunnit story but more of a how and 'whydunnit' tale. Eve Penrose spins an enchanting web of a plot featuring twists and turns galore, complemented by some compelling character work and a riveting narrative that never lets you take your eyes off the pages. The author keeps moving the plot along smoothly, and as a reader, you find yourself flying through the pages, eager to know what will happen next. Blake, as a protagonist, is easy to root for. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Blake and her friends as they worked toward bringing The Blue Prussian down. Thriller fans will find plenty to love about The Blue Prussian.

When Blake O’Brien fell in love with Jack 'Milt' Oxley Jr., a suave, somewhat quirky banker, never in her wildest dreams did she imagine his true nature. Their marriage lasted for about one year, and the divorce reassured Blake that she had finally escaped this toxic man. Little did she know that her ex-husband had poisoned her with thallium, the only known antidote for which was Prussian blue, a widely used dye. Suffering from neurological issues yet determined to make a comeback, Blake’s fractured mind holds the keys to unraveling the satanic plan and implicating the perp. Can she race against time to prove his guilt and save other victims from a cruel fate? Find out in The Blue Prussian by Eve Penrose.

This rabbit hole of a book effortlessly pulls readers in, evoking visceral reactions. The shocking revelation at the beginning made me feel that the storyline had hit its darkest point. Yet, the more I read, the more horrified I became at the nightmarish quality of it. As Blake recounted intricate details about her ill-fated marriage, I had to muster the courage to confront a coldhearted predator masquerading as a reputable person. When Blake finally put the puzzle pieces together, the emergent picture was nothing short of diabolical. Even as I dove deeper into the convoluted psyche of a deranged man, the sheer scope of his debauchery sent me reeling. In this well-researched book, Penrose imparts ample information about various personality disorders and the rampant poisoning cases during the Victorian era. I commended Blake’s astounding resilience that helped her analyze the dire situation calmly while being compassionate to other helpless souls. As her deadly dance with her ex-husband rose in tempo, reaching a crescendo at the climax, I could not help but admire her mettle. Merging psychological thriller, gothic mystery, and courtroom drama into one, The Blue Prussian is a perfect read for anyone who loves crime thrillers.
