An airplane crashes into a public park under mysterious circumstances. There are no survivors to relate the details of what went wrong. Cameron stumbles upon a harmless-looking item while looking through the crash site debris. A series of strange events lead him to believe there may be more to his find than meets the eye. With the help of his love interest and an inquisitive government agent, Cameron attempts to right a wrong decision that was taken years before his time. Will he succeed or will this mysterious artifact destroy him and everything he holds dear? Only time will tell in John Reizer's The Blue Marble.
John Reizer's short story is fast-paced and interesting. It features a light cast as is often the case with short stories like this but stays true to its storyline of otherworldly mystery. Cameron's antics and inquisitive nature make for some entertaining reading. The dynamic between Cameron and his love interest displays the intricacies of sexual tension, giving the impression of a possible budding romance. Alternating chapters between past and present events in a bid to relay the origin of the blue marble is a nice touch that increased the aura of mystery surrounding this mysterious item. The Blue Marble delivers some rather entertaining reading, the action sequences are reasonably well detailed, and the overall story arc creates enough suspense for one to wonder if there is a sequel somewhere in the works. This is talented storytelling on a completely different level.
