The Bedtime Story Race by Shel Curry is a fun and fast-paced picture book for young children. The book focuses on two siblings, Ethan and Sophie. Ethan is eager to show off his reading skills to his older sister but when their mother says, "The first one who finishes their chores can pick the bedtime story," it lands them in a race that Ethan feels he must win. How else will he be able to show off his skills? Join Ethan and Sophie in this delightful picture book and see who wins the race!
Author Shel Curry has done an amazing job at creating a fast-paced storyline that children will love. I liked that the author designed the characters to be relatable to real-life siblings, as most children are eager to show off new skills they have learned, especially to someone they look up to. The text is simple and effective and the illustrations by Hatice Bayramoglu are colorful and fit nicely within the story. This book will not only entertain the reader, but it will also educate them on sight word practice as the author has included many words to spark more interest in reading. Shel Curry has also listed five questions at the end of the book for the parent/teacher or guardian reading to ask the child, which will be thought-provoking and enhance creativity. I enjoyed this book a lot and hope to see more from Shel Curry in the future, as I know her books will have a positive impact on children's education.
