The Beautiful Losses is an enthralling collection of poems and poetic stories that cover a wide range of topics and emotions related to the human condition, presented in a post-modern narrative style. Penned by Frederick Pollack, this poetic narrative is personal and intimate yet touches upon universal themes: nature, religion, societal dysfunction, etc. They hint at memories of a lost time, the curse of knowing or being a poet, the lack of a spirit animal in one's childhood, the appeal of “ideal glass,” a delegation of ducks presenting the case of all animals to mankind, being tortured by fundamentalists and paying them back in kind, a world where Godzilla and King Kong are revered artists and good friends, freedom losing its meaning, and much more.

With this captivating collection, Frederick Pollack takes readers on a journey that you want to revisit time and time again. The Beautiful Losses is bittersweet, funny, tragic, and somewhat hard to decipher at the same time. Above all, it forces you to introspect and contemplate as you immerse yourself in Pollack's non-rhyming lyrical narratives, trying to figure out the context behind the meaning of his poems. Each poem has Pollack's unique poetic flair while exploring a different topic, telling a story that embodies real-world social issues and personal experiences with the same panache. Overall, The Beautiful Losses is one of the most riveting poetry collections I've ever read. The book calls for a re-read. I highly recommend this book if you love poems featuring some abstract flair.
