The Baron of Eastcastle is the second novel in the Quinn Hawk Series by Jim Pugmire. Quinn is a confused teen with a lot of problems. He is illiterate, feels like an outcast in his family, and now his friend Rhiannon disappears after helping him solve clues proving his parents were murdered. He suspects Rowan, a ranger who’s interested in the evidence found and who knows his every move. This puzzles the teen who eventually stays with Paddock, a dominating Maldrian Baron. Rowan appears, forcing him to return to Eastcastle. When Maldria declares war on Eastcastle, Quinn’s uncle, Duke Renard, Rowan and other men fight, leaving Quinn and his friends at home. When villains invade the castle, Quinn’s life and those he loves are endangered. He realises the mystery surrounding his parents' death is deeper than he thought.
Jim Pugmire did not disappoint me with The Baron of Eastcastle, Book 2 from the Quinn Hawk Series. If you like medieval stories, then you’ll appreciate this adventure novel. I found it even more exciting than The Bishop of Canton, Book 1. The story is very descriptive and it’s easy to imagine that you’re actually part of the drama itself. It is suspenseful and full of twists which made reading a lot of fun. Jim Pugmire has a knack for developing his characters nicely, while extracting their emotions to draw a reaction from readers like myself. The Baron of Eastcastle will captivate teens and adults looking for an entertaining read.
