The Attractiveness of Wisdom is a slice-of-life romance drama by Judy Kelly. Devastated after a broken marriage, university dean Hamilton Maddox is still haunted by his ex-wife's words that he is too controlling of others and his own life. Seeking a break from his normal routine, Hamilton takes an impromptu trip to Hawaii, after which he joins a dance studio as an organizer. Franny, the studio owner, has struggles of her own and is in a complicated relationship with her mother. Soon, Hamilton develops a burgeoning friendship with Franny and learns to go with the flow. When he meets a former nun turned research journalist, he believes he may have found the love of his life, but life is always full of surprises. Will Hamilton learn to love and take each moment as it comes?
The Attractiveness of Wisdom demonstrates perfectly how trying to control others or one's future is quite often a fool's errand, and all we can do is try our best under the circumstances and hope and pray for the optimal result. Judy Kelly tells the tale of a recently divorced man who struggles to discover his purpose and finds himself falling for a woman with whom his future is uncertain. The characters are likable, with relatable personal struggles that make them thoroughly compelling to read. Hamilton is a good man limited by his weakness of wanting to assume control over any situation he encounters. This is the story of how he grows as a person and learns to live in the moment. A beautiful story that I highly recommend.
