Everyone struggles with anxiety at some point in their lives. Kris Taft Miller understands this and has created The Anxious Avocado - "a children's book about dealing with anxiety including techniques to help handle stress and stay calm to address anxiety on a child’s level." The first part of the book explains the emotional and physical symptoms and signs of anxiety. Children learn coping skills that will help alleviate their concerns. Kris teaches children how to overcome anxiety and each lesson is taught by one of Avocado’s friends, such as Confused Cocoa who teaches Anxious Avocado how to use a deep breathing technique to calm his troubled mind. Anxiety is closely related to panic and Panicked Peach explains the need to speak to an adult and avoid the panic button. Fear, worry, stress, and other symptoms can result in panic, but the advice provided will equip children to recognize and manage the situation.
Anxious Avocado is a cute and friendly avocado concerned about starting a new school. Modern society is full of stresses that lead to anxiety and its relatives. Teaching children coping mechanisms is essential for their success in life. The Anxious Avocado is an excellent source for explaining this and will help children learn how to relax and enjoy life. Kris Taft Miller shows children that numerous measures can be used to overcome their anxiety and six are explained in this book. Children will enjoy meeting all the neat characters, from Concerned Cookie to Worried Waffle. Armed with these six techniques, children will be equipped to overcome panic and anxiety for the rest of their lives. I highly recommend this book and would have loved to have had it doing my 30+ years of counseling children.
