The Adventures of Mister Bubble: Mister Bubble and the Three Greedy Triplets, written by Luke Mathius Harlow and illustrated by Jasmine Todd, is a delightfully animated tale of the thoughtlessness of greed. In this story the village is full of happy children who share. They share their sweets. They share their toys. They share their games and they even share their hats and scarves when others around them are cold. These children exemplify the morals that every parent wishes to foster in their own children.
Unfortunately, as in the reality of life, there is a set of very, very greedy triplets who do not share; not even with themselves. Upon discovering Mr. Bubble and his gift of granting non-greedy wishes, the greedy triplets embark on a thorough sibling rivalry to obtain these wishes. Of course, the first two wishes are full of greed and the result backfires. Will the greedy triplets finally realize their mistake and will they ask for the final wish to be granted in a manner that benefits all the children of the village?
I really enjoyed The Adventures of Mr. Bubble. The story is a refreshing re-telling of the popular theme of greed that I believe will attract even the pickiest of young readers. The illustrations are engagingly simplistic, but convincingly realistic in that very simplicity. I would even enjoy the drawings as actual wall art for a child’s bedroom or lower grade classroom. I like the metaphor of the protagonist (Mr. Bubble) being associated with being clean. Nicely done.
