Logan would have loved it if Lilly could talk; however, being a doll, she obviously can’t. That is until the day he unearths a strange watch from the attic that makes his toys come to life. A toy pirate insists that Logan, the powerful wielder of the watch, must rescue Joey the Kangaroo from the clutches of the Pinky Pirate. At first reluctant to involve himself in a perilous journey, Logan nonetheless complies when the promise of the adventure sounds too alluring. Accompanied by Captain Orangebeard and his beloved Lilly, he steps into a magic portal that transports him to a magical world. In The Adventures of Logan & Lilly and The Lost Treasure, Candace Valek narrates the story of Logan’s daring escapade.
This short yet entertaining story filled me with pure delight. When Logan got an opportunity to undertake an exciting quest, I felt I was also a part of his journey. The trio’s adventure took them through many trials involving dangerous situations and curious tasks. The story moved swiftly, all the while keeping readers guessing. The accompanying illustrations brought the book to life. The characters’ facial expressions were so life-like, the pictures so attractive, that I could not decide whether I liked the story more or the illustrations. Also, I loved the inherent message the book conveyed. Valek highlighted that a person, no matter how young or seemingly insignificant, can do wonders if only they have faith in themselves. I would absolutely recommend The Adventures of Logan & Lilly and The Lost Treasure to an audience of 5 to 10 years.
