The Abduction of Adrienne Berg is a work of fiction in the romantic suspense, thriller, and interpersonal drama subgenres. Penned by author Cheri Krueger, it is best suited to the adult reading audience. Adrienne, a discontented housewife, crosses paths with Gabriel, a charismatic pilot, and is immediately drawn to him. When Gabriel abducts her and steals millions from her embezzling husband, Adrienne's life takes a drastic turn. Rather than feeling fear, she finds herself exhilarated by the thrill of it all. Fueled by a sense of betrayal from her husband's secrets, she transforms from hostage to accomplice. What follows is a chaotic and suspenseful journey from the suburbs of San Francisco to the treacherous badlands of Mexico.
Author Cheri Krueger crafts a complex plot filled with well-developed characters, making it difficult to predict their next moves as the fantastic pacing rockets you toward the next wild twist. As the story unfolds, the lines between right and wrong blur and the pursuit of happiness becomes Adrienne's driving force, but it’s a complex road that is well-navigated by the author’s attention to psychological and emotional character development. The novel explores themes of choice, consequences, and the lengths to which one will go to secure one's version of paradise, and these are nicely layered and backgrounded so as not to overtake or slow down the action-packed plot. Overall, The Abduction of Adrienne Berg is a thrilling ride, filled with twists and turns that will leave readers questioning the nature of right and wrong, and I would certainly recommend it as an un-put-down-able suspense read.
