Mary Lee's The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child to Write is filled with marvelous full-color illustrations and catchy prompts. This book can be used as a workbook as the facing page for each illustration is lined and ready for a child to write. There are prompts for careers, animals, toys and even ghostly visitors. There are also plenty of nature prompts filled with lush foliage, plants, butterflies and animals. Lee also includes prompts that allow children to write about their feelings. There are happy faces throughout The ABC's of Titles, but there's also one sad illustration of a girl who is crying. Each prompt should give rise to a number of different stories.
The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child is filled with inventive and inspirational ways to get children writing, effortlessly and pain-free. The illustrations alone provide so much descriptive material that children who don't think they could ever write a story will find themselves busily writing away. What a great confidence booster this is! Not every picture will catch every kid's imagination, but so many interests and hobbies are represented in this alphabet of prompts, that most kids will find plenty to write about. I am a very visually-oriented reader and loved the woods on the very first page, and the bullfrogs and butterflies on the second. I could see myself starting a story from either of those pages, and then that very funny crocodile... Mary Lee's The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child is a fabulous gift for a kid who just needs a little push to set his or her imagination ablaze. This book will do it.
