If you feel burned out from work and out of balance in your personal life, The 3G Cycle of Life: The Secrets for Achieving Joy, Meaning, and Well-Being by physician Dr. Miriam Zylberglait Lisigurski is for you. Inspired by her struggles to navigate between the demands of a high-performance career and the desire for a meaningful and fulfilling life outside the workplace, Dr. Lisigurski developed the 3G Cycle philosophy. This approach looks at life as a sequence of interconnected cycles rather than a single line running in one direction. The components are the 3Gs of Goal, Grit, and Growth. Understanding how to use them enables us to address the negative aspects of chronic stress while fostering positive feelings of growth and fulfillment.
In The 3G Cycle of Life, Dr. Miriam Zylberglait Lisigurski gives us a chance to stop, take a breath, reassess where we are in our lives, and change our approach. I liked the discussion of catalysts such as self-awareness, kindness, altruism, empathy, self-care, self-compassion, spirituality, and mindfulness. This holistic approach is based on the need for mental and emotional fitness and, as she points out, when we are mentally fit, we can handle life’s challenges. Though she uses illustrations and data to reinforce her points, her presentation is well-organized and relatable. For example, in discussing being tough-minded in pursuing goals, she writes that a smarter goal without grit is like a car without gasoline. It is informative, insightful, and inspirational.
