In Tennyson’s Big Secret, A. H. Benjamin has children guessing what the secret might be. After exploring the many possibilities, the author makes the big reveal. What can it possibly be? As you read this book with your child, give them time to guess what the secret is. It has to be bigger than pulling a rabbit out of the hat. Maybe Tennyson can pull an elephant out of his magician’s hat. Maybe Tennyson is a world-famous artist. Perhaps Tennyson is the best footballer to have ever lived. The possibilities are numerous. Encourage your child to use their imagination when they guess. Is it conceivable that your child has the same big secret as Tennyson? At the end of the book, have your child join in the secret and share it with you.

A. H. Benjamin shares the most important secret one can have in Tennyson’s Big Secret. It is a secret that everyone can be a part of and should share regularly. As you enjoy this book with your child, encourage them. Help your child look beyond the boundaries and visualize the endless possibilities. Which of their creative ideas would constitute a great secret? What would make them special? Peter Trimarco contributes his artwork to illustrate the various options as to what the secret might be. As you encourage your child to imagine, help them to learn what is logical and what is impossible. Logic is sorely missing in today’s society, but this book gives you a great platform to teach your children how to think both imaginatively and logically. Your children will love the words and illustrations while you will love the time spent interacting with your children.

Tennyson's Big Secret written by A.H. Benjamin and illustrated by Peter Trimarco is an engaging children's book. Meet Tennyson, a charming little boy. Not surprisingly, he has a big secret. The only clue provided before being asked to guess his hidden talent is that he can do a magical thing. What could Tennyson's hush-hush fantastical skill possibly be? Before the big reveal, several hilarious, improbable suggestions are presented to the reader. The colorful illustrations play a huge part in developing the story. The intended audience is early readers. However, this is such a fun book that children of all ages would enjoy reading or having it read to them.

I enjoyed reading Tennyson's Big Secret. I like the playful nature of the book format. For example, various fun font styles and colors are utilized throughout the book. Additionally, the sentences are sprinkled throughout the pages in several ways. For instance, some of the sentences may be in the top left corner in a straight line, while another sentence is curved on the other side of the page. I believe this unpredictable formatting helps to keep children engaged. It also highlights the different intriguing illustrations. Trimarco's drawing style is appealing. It inspires me to want to draw as well. I can see parents and caregivers using this book about secrets to discuss what secrets one should or shouldn't keep. Tennyson's Big Secret is a wholesome book, and I highly recommend it to all children.

Tennyson’s Big Secret is a children’s picture book by A.H. Benjamin. After the reader turns the page of a paint-splattered interior and views a dedication to the real-life muse of this work, the author hints at an important secret involving a boy called Tennyson. Benjamin takes readers through a list of sweet and outrageously funny things that Tennyson cannot do. The narrator asks questions, and when the answer is provided, the cat appears to comment in the accompanying illustrations by Peter Trimarco. Several leading queries are resolved before Tennyson’s secret is finally revealed.

A.H. Benjamin has created a beautiful book with an endearing message. Even though there may be things that are impossible for young Tennyson or that he hasn’t mastered yet, the boy is nevertheless skilled and has an important ability. Benjamin’s love for the subject of the story is clear and the colorful illustrations by Peter Trimarco enhance the text. Readers will get a look at Tennyson through the eyes of the author as they watch him make colorful creations, attempt magic tricks, build Lego towers, and score successive soccer goals. They will see the heart-warming nature of the story when the narrator divulges Tennyson’s secret. When read aloud, educators and caregivers can raise their intonation at the end of the questions, encouraging children to discuss whether they think Tennyson possesses a particular ability, and they can change their voices when it seems that the cat responds. Tennyson’s Big Secret would make a great addition to a child’s bookcase or the shelf of a public library.
