Yetis, those mythical snow-loving creatures, are having a moment. In Carla Mae Jansen's new book, Ten Very Merry Yetis, they are in their element and getting ready for Christmas. Jansen's rhyming story starts with a group of ten Yetis in the snow-covered mountains, looking for the perfect tree. Along the way, the Yetis dwindle away one by one, sometimes napping, sometimes distracted by what they find, as they search for their Christmas tree. Eventually, there is only one Yeti left and he wants to find something special too. All the Yetis return to help him and a Merry Christmas is had by all. Jansen has also included some information about Yetis at the end of the story and encourages kids to write their own Yeti tale.
Ten Very Merry Yetis is a Christmas tale but can be enjoyed year-round. Carla Mae Jansen has written a fun wintry counting book that is perfect for a winter storytime. The illustrations are an integral part of the story. Each of the pale watercolor-like Yetis is unique and ranges in size so they can be easily counted. Hidden throughout the story is a lone red cardinal that kids will love hunting for on each spread. Eagle-eyed readers will also notice something unusual poking out of the snow that plays an important part in the tale. Jansen's rhymes roll off the tongue, which makes this a perfect book to read aloud. Ten Very Merry Yetis is a simple, joyful story that will bring smiles to its readers' faces.
