Teamwork Lil Peter It Works by Peter Valdez and Tasche Laine is an engaging story designed to help Lil Peter understand how important teamwork can be. Lil Peter is smart and creative. He has a brilliant idea and wants to put it into action all by himself, but does he need a team? The story highlights the question of when is the best time for children to learn the importance of teamwork. Other children, including his brother, constantly offer to help Lil Peter, but he wants to do his project alone. However, once the unexpected happens, Lil Peter has to make a choice. He can acknowledge that he needs help or lose out on the chance to see his dream come to life. One of the most important lessons Lil Peter learns is that even if you have a great idea that you can carry out all by yourself, you may still want to include others if you can. He also learns the important benefits of letting others help out. I invite you to read the book so you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I liked the illustrations by Mei Mei Leonard as they are sharp and bold, and the personality of each child is clear in the drawings. I must say that one of the funniest drawings is on page 29 of the eBook as the artist brought this scene to life. I also enjoyed the realism and size of each image, which made me feel as if I was right there in each scene. Teamwork Lil Peter It Works leaves readers with a wonderful feeling of camaraderie and a sense that all the children, not just Lil Peter, learned something about the importance, fun, and fulfillment in teamwork. My appreciation goes to Peter Valdez and Tasche Laine for this colorful and educational story.
