If you are a novice to online teaching, then Teaching Online: Online Teaching Survival Guide by Selena Watts is a very good primer for you. This is a most relevant book, given the issues for schools caused by the pandemic. Though many teachers and trainers have moved to remote learning and other modalities than in person, this can still be a good book for those just starting out.
The first section does an excellent job of talking about the different kinds of online learning and the challenges teaching online brings with the modality. It is different from a classroom teaching environment. The book then talks generally about “the best methods and practices for online learning,” giving basic guidelines for ways to engage students in the classroom. There is an extensive listing of online teaching tools, giving brief descriptions of each tool and the category of teaching which it targets, followed by recommendations for online teaching. In order to learn more about the tools, however, it is necessary for the reader to search on their own to find the website and relevant information. For the beginner in online teaching, Teaching Online by Selena Watts is a good introduction to teaching online and a good reminder of the fundamentals for those teachers who are more advanced. Overall, a very good primer to online teaching.
