In Sweet Twisted Pine by Lori R. Hodges, it is early 1800 and Michael and his sister Lucy live a comfortable life in Philadelphia high society. Life as they know it is going to suddenly change forever. Lucy vanishes and Michael believes that she has been taken to Colorado. He immediately boards a train and goes in search of Lucy. He meets and is befriended by the Donnelly family brothers and their beautiful sister Sarah. Jack Turner is the bad guy and has killed people and raped many women, including Pat Donnelly’s wife. Michael works hard to learn the ways of the west, fighting and surviving until he can safely ride along with the brothers and track and end the reign of Jack Turner.
Sweet Twisted Pine is a good western story about life in the old west and the way justice was handed out. I really enjoyed reading this gripping story very much. Lori R. Hodges created a wonderful cast of characters that were very real and very likable, except for Turner who was evil through and through. A vivid picture was drawn and as I read, I felt pulled into the pages and back to the old wild west days of the 1800s. Sweet Twisted Pine is everything that its description promised and so much more. If you love good old cowboy tales, then this book is a must – it has all the excitement of finding bad guys, living out on the range and working a ranch. Sweet Twisted Pine is a sure-fire winner.
