Surrender by Reita Pendry is the first novel in her Cassandra Robbins Mysteries. Cass Robbins is an attorney who practices criminal law. Her partner, Pete Hunt, handles their civil cases. During one of Pete's visits to a local bar, Eddie introduces himself, assuming he will need someone to represent him someday soon. Pete then witnesses a man putting something in the trunk of Eddie's car. That brief interaction changes Cass and Pete forever. Murder, drug dealers, and intimidation become recurring events in their lives. Backing Cass and Pete into a corner only releases them from their obligations, and the fight begins. Will this be the rock bottom Pete needed to get help, and can Cass continue when those she loves become publicly ridiculed or harmed?
I found Reita Pendry ignites a sense of urgency and danger within her novel, Surrender. This story draws you in as the law makes no exceptions for the wealthy, the outlaws, and those sworn to uphold the law. This story rivets readers as the panic to keep illegal information contained pushes the drug dealers to tighten their grip. You will get to know the strengths and flaws of the well-described characters as their lives are exposed. The author skillfully shows the concern the characters have for one of their own as he struggles with addiction. Their love and dedication to helping him allow him to reach a place that will make a difference in his life. I highly recommend this novel for its inspiration and hope woven within the pages.
