It's funny how society looks down on aging. Those who live their lives in front of the world from actors, musicians, and athletes to artists at times must paint a picture of perfection. They must never show any sign of aging or slowing down, otherwise, they will be considered dated. In SuperAging: Getting Older Without Getting Old by David Cravit and Larry Wolf, the reader will discover that there is life after 65. In this book, the authors provide seven channels to help you maximize the aging journey. When reaching the age of 65, some look upon it as the end of their lives while, for others, it is the beginning of something new, all based upon one’s perspective. SuperAgers are now living 15-20 years longer past the age of 65. They are living active lives that require them to challenge themselves and push beyond their age limitations. While their bodies may appear to have some limitations, their minds are still sharp as they continue to seek new ways to explore different opportunities.
Personally, SuperAging by David Cravit and Larry Wolf was an ideal read for me because I am on my fourth life cycle. I am continually asked where I find the energy or motivation to take on new things, reinvent myself, or discover yet another path in life. My answer is that while I am still on this Earth and have been given various gifts and talents, why not use them. Just like the examples outlined in this book, it is clear that aging shouldn’t be looked upon as a death sentence or the end of life; there's more within each of us to be explored. The elderly should be given a chance to create and embrace new discoveries despite their age. The reader will get the same type of willpower and hope through this book and must stop letting society dictate what one should or should not be doing at a specific age. While technology has replaced in-person interaction, the elderly must consider and be aware of the scams, fraud, and other schemes that are out there; this is why the Avoidance Chapter is essential. To stay engaged and up to date on tools and resources that you can use to enjoy life as you age, you will have access to the website, newsletter, and the ability to connect with a community of like-minded individuals. Highly recommended!
