Two young boys in need of acceptance in a world of injustice. A beautiful and talented preacher’s daughter living a lie. One amazing drummer unaware of his natural talent. The members of an up and coming new band, Summer Haze, work together, often reluctantly, to create a dream come true. This story embraces the magic of musical lyrics and the power behind those words. When Digger meets the new boy at school, he has no idea that Chip would become the most important friend in his life. Chip believes in Digger and doesn’t treat him as a verbal punching bag with the insults to which Digger is accustomed. And when Chip recognizes the musical possibilities the two of them can create, an unbreakable bond is formed. With the addition of Smitty on drums, the trio sets off on a wild ride of playing gigs and getting in trouble. It is all fun and games until they catch the attention of a music agent and meet Aria, their new lead singer. Aria changes everything, in ways no one would ever imagine.
Summer Haze by Michael J. Tucker is a remarkably moving story, set in Appalachia, of four unlikely friends looking for reasons to trust. Tucker includes plenty of unexpected plot twists and captivating song lyrics. The reader, especially the music lover, will relate strongly to the sensitivities of the songs. Tucker’s dialogue is believable and his characters are genuine. I think I have found my new favorite author. I was absolutely captivated by Summer Haze!
