Author Lori Hogan was a Miss Nebraska and professional model, but she and her husband Paul founded Home Instead Senior Care in 1994 which now has 900 independently owned and operated franchises in the United States and, at the writing of this book, in sixteen other countries around the world. The basic theme of Home Instead is that, even if it is difficult and requires more strength than seems humanly possible, children, relatives, neighbors and friends should care for a senior, someone with special needs, in their own home or in a nursing facility if that is needed until that person is called to God. Lori Hogan has organized each of the fifty-two stories of dealing with a parent, an in-law, or just a neighbor with no immediate family. She includes a scriptural verse, a caregiver's prayer at the end of each story. And each of these stories is different as Lori herself tells of caring for two elderly sisters from her family's church, a man tells of losing his beloved wife to cancer after giving her love and care, and a woman tells of devotion to a friend with MS.
"Strength for the Moment: Inspiration for Caregivers" is a well-written, well-formatted book that covers fifty-two different stories of caring for someone in need. Some of the tales tell of keeping a loved one at home until the end; others tell of a registered caregiver stepping in to help an overwhelmed family. The recounting of these stories will give the reader inspiration to reach out to family and friends in need of help. Author Lori Hogan has written a book that will uplift, not depress, the reader.
