Stop Renting, Start Buying: 8 Steps to Buying a Home After the Housing Crisis is a non-fiction business/finance work written by Tonya Brown. Brown wants renters to consider whether becoming home owners can improve both their daily lives and their fortunes. While acknowledging the hesitant mindset many renters have in the wake of the housing crisis, she still offers a number of reasons why home ownership can be a boon for renters, including the tax savings and the retirement equity that builds up in a house. Many houses go up in value over a few years. She does caution against going out and starting to look for homes until you get pre-approved or at least have a good grasp of what you can afford to pay, have good control over your financial history, and know whether your FICO scores are currently acceptable for the type of mortgage you have in mind. Once those details are ironed out, you’ll want to follow her guidelines for finding a great real estate agent and start hunting.
Tonya Brown’s non-fiction business/finance work, Stop Renting, Start Buying: 8 Steps to Buying a Home After the Housing Crisis, is chock-full of information that will help prospective home owners approach this major financial purchase armed with knowledge and prepared for just about any eventuality. I marveled at the thoroughness and almost encyclopedic amount of detail that the author includes in this well-presented text. While this is a relatively short work, don’t be fooled by the brevity into thinking that your questions and concerns will not be addressed. Brown’s got it all covered; she even includes a checklist entitled The 83 Types of Turbulence or things that can go wrong after you’ve found the house and are waiting for the closing to occur. Stop Renting, Start Buying: 8 Steps to Buying a Home After the Housing Crisis should be on every prospective home buyer’s ‘must-buy’ list; it’s that good.
