Liv Strom’s Stealing Glass is the first book in the Tales of Bones and Roses series. Tal is a city known as the place where people can speak to the spirits of their dead family members. Vanya and her twin sister were in debt to Kirill after their mother died. After a failed attempt to rob the von Mekeln mansion, Kirill offered them a last task to free them from their debt. Vanya plans to snatch a glass crown while Lumi causes a fire for distraction. Prince Dimitri did not want to marry and planned to murder his father. When Vanya attempted to steal the crown, he caught her and thought she was Helia, his betrothed. Vanya returns home to find Von Lemerch, and Kirill wants her to imitate the princess again. However, Vanya has competition, as Dimitri's past still holds his heart.
Vanya and Lumi worked well together, though Lumi had a murderous streak. I found Dimitri’s murder plots intriguing. Both of the main characters were well-developed. Each supporting character had a significant impact on the actions of Vanya and Dimitri. The plot gained depth with the seamless transitions between alternating perspectives. The magical abilities that manifested caught me off-guard. Loyalty, kindness, and honesty were all tested in multiple scenes. The vivid details of each moment grabbed my full attention. The cliffhanger ending has me eager to read the sequel. Stealing Glass will appeal to fantasy romance readers and fans of an alternative Cinderella story.
