Staccato Passage by Joslyn Chase is a gripping espionage thriller that follows Riley Forte, a concert pianist turned spy-in-training, as she faces a criminal mastermind. Recruited by a covert security firm, Riley enters an elite spy school in Bavaria. However, a shocking discovery challenges her self-assurance and tests her survival instincts. Amidst deception, terrorism threats, and intense training, Riley must master the necessary skills to avert a global catastrophe. This high-octane sequel to Nocturne In Ashes delivers nonstop suspense and intrigue.

Author Joslyn Chase expertly weaves high-stakes action with complex character development to offer a spy thriller that works on many levels to please readers who want a fully-rounded novel. The blend of musical and espionage elements is a unique approach that feels fresh and new for the genre, showing the author's creativity and skill in merging different themes, and more importantly, doing it in a plot-relevant way that never feels gimmicky. The pacing is impeccable, maintaining tension and excitement throughout as Chase’s vivid descriptions of espionage training create an immersive read, pulling readers deep into Riley’s world and keeping them focused on the next piece of the puzzle. I also really enjoyed the dialogue for its dry humor and emotive realism, but it also worked brilliantly to move the story on naturally and unveil more surprises and clues as the different elements of the storylines started to converge. Overall, Staccato Passage is a highly engaging thriller that I would certainly recommend to fans of well-plotted, exciting spy fiction.
