All the fruits were mixed up and the gardener found herself in a fix. The little black dog was coming to eat everything up and the gardener shouted and pouted. Squilly the chicken came over and decided to fix the problem by helping the gardener sort out the fruits. Squilly sorted the fruits by color - yellow, red, and green - and the little black dog watched them. It was not a small job as Squilly counted all the fruits and put them in baskets in groups. Squilly did a fantastic job and the gardener was happy. She sat back and gave the little black dog a treat.

Squilly Sorts It Out: A Story About Counting and Sorting by Tashia Beaty is a charming story written to give a voice to children with autism. The author shows readers how autistic children have gifts and talents that are not often spoken about and she brings them to life through Squilly's character. The illustrations are as adorable as the story and they breathe life into the characters. Squilly's fixation with numbers and keeping things in order will be real and relatable to many parents, counselors, therapists, and tutors dealing with autistic kids. The book is good for classroom read-aloud and storytelling sessions because the author also has a number of concepts, rhyming, and comprehension in the story, which makes it fun and interactive for children. For children with autism, this book is empowering and gives them a voice.
