I'm sure young readers have heard the saying, "You are a coach potato", get up and play outside." With today's advancement in technology, multiple ways to watch television programs and play video games, children aren't getting enough exercise or time spent outdoors. Spud the Couch Potato, written by Sean Jackson, introduces young readers to the idea of being a coach potato and outdoor activities.
Spud is a grouchy potato who loves to sit on the couch and do nothing but watch television. He does not care to participate in outdoor activities with his friends or family, who like jumping rope, playing baseball, or going fishing. Spud does not think outdoor activities are fun or appealing. He has no interest whatsoever in learning to play any outdoor games. Until one day the unthinkable happens, the television no longer works! Find out what Spud will do now that he can no longer sit on his couch and stare at the television all day long.
Sean Jackson has skillfully and creatively found a way to educate young children on the importance of not being a couch potato and the value of physical activity in his fun, colorful, and charming pictorial children's book. Children love silliness in a storybook. The character being a potato is fun and attention grabbing, which will entertain a young reader and keep their focus throughout the whole story. The brightly colored illustrations help keep the book lively, kid-friendly, and pleasurable while the story plot and message are informative and educational.
