Now almost sixty, Paul Lewis and his wife Margaret decide to retire and tour their home country Australia. With their pregnant daughter almost due to deliver, they want to make it in time to Perth where she lives with her husband. However, their adventure is cut short after a country-wide lockdown is declared following a raging global virus pandemic. Perhaps things would have turned out differently had the lockdown found the couple in Melbourne, their hometown. Since they are in the middle of nowhere, they are obliged to find the nearest camping grounds to keep safe. It’s then that they find themselves at Spear Creek Farm. Alongside a few other people, the couple realizes they’ll be stuck with a psycho farm owner for at least a fortnight. Steven J Taylor’s Spear Creek is just what lovers of horror are looking for, laced with a gripping tale of tourists, family drama, monsters, guns, and more. Taylor’s unique style of writing effortlessly displays his prowess in the literary world. His sophisticated choice of words gives it a robust and professional touch. Weaving an intriguing plot, he breathes life into the scenes with vivid and colorful depictions. The tone kept me on edge during the fast-paced action, thrills, adventure, and suspense. This is accentuated by the overt way of depicting the cast’s emotions. All these coupled with the humor that accompanies the story culminated in a tense experience. I found Paul’s interactions with Margaret particularly hilarious. Spear Creek is a magnificent piece of work and a masterpiece of the horror genre and I feel it would make a great Hollywood horror movie. I loved it and I’m looking forward to reading more of Taylor’s work.
