You never really consider the worst possible scenario until it happens to you. In Soul Breather by Vanessa K. Eccles, Adalind was just an ordinary girl until she wasn’t. Seemingly out of nowhere, Addie begins to display severely violent behavior until her parents realize that it’s not Addie at all. A monster, a beast, a demon has latched onto her and in doing so has literally dragged her down to hell. Things get complicated and people get hurt all the while Addie is just trying to figure out how to make it all stop. If only things were that simple.
Soul Breather by Vanessa K. Eccles was truly an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. It was honestly painful at times seeing the way these episodes would affect not only Addie but her family and friends as well. Knowing that she couldn’t help it or fix it in any way really gave a sense of helplessness at the beginning of the book and you can’t help but sympathize with her struggles. Eccles truly did a wonderful job writing this unique and complex story while making the characters realistic despite the supernatural circumstances of the plot. The progression of the plot is paced perfectly and really allows you to become engrossed in the unfolding events. Ultimately what I loved most about this book was the fact that despite the harrowing circumstances Addie never gave up and instead always did her best to stay strong. I absolutely loved Soul Breather and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more books from Vanessa K. Eccles.
