Sonnelles is a collection of forty-eight poems based on the original English sonnet form, written by author Robert Sterling. In its audiobook format, these modern adaptations of the form are read with pacing and emotion by the author himself and accompanied by backing tracks composed by the author too. The commentary and general theme take us through the journey of life, meditative and contemplative in nature but also possessing an air of hope through reminiscence. Ideas about self-contemplation, hope, despair and, most of all, love are discussed through clever, rhythmic wordplay and soft rhyme schemes which sometimes deviate from the traditional form.

The content of Robert Sterling’s work combines a thoughtful selection of words and imagery with clever pacing and permitted moments of reflection. Each sonnet featured in Sonnelles has its own individual moment of consideration for a person, element or feeling, but the overall theme of reflecting on life’s experiences rings true, making for a coherent and powerful collection of verses as a whole. The production quality of the audiobook volume of Sonnelles serves to enhance the poetic form by giving it its proper pacing, rhythm, and intonation as intended by author Robert Sterling. As a narrator, Sterling has a pleasing and calming voice which allows the clarity of the verses to wash over readers in a meditative state. The music fitted the themes of Sonnelles really well and added to the tone of nostalgia and reflection.

Sonnelles by Robert Sterling is a collection of 48 poems that were inspired by the classic English sonnet. This collection would appeal most to a diverse audience of individuals who enjoy poetry that takes one on an emotional journey. This collection has poems that are oriented to the emotions of human existence. Are you ready to go on a journey that will remind you of your own joys and sorrows?

Sonnelles by Robert Sterling is a beautifully composed collection of poetry. I loved how the author managed to truly imbue each poem with such strong emotions that it felt like each poem was speaking to me on a personal and spiritual level. I personally liked the modernization of the poems in that the author did not force a strict adherence to iambic and rhyme schemes, but instead bent them in order to empower each poem to the fullest. Overall, I really enjoyed this poetry collection and I found all of the poems to be very calming.

Robert Sterling narrated Sonnelles himself, which allowed each poem to be spoken with the emotion and voice that was best suited for each poem. The addition of background music served to enhance my listening experience. The combination of narration and music allowed me to close my eyes as I listened to each poem and create a scene in my head or remember a memory that matched up with the poem. I felt myself relaxing as the music played and the author read one poem after another in a serene manner that held my interest while also causing me to instantly begin to unwind.

I was a literature student back in 2015 and I simply loved reading and analyzing sonnets, deciphering their meaning and looking for clues as to what the poet meant. Sonnelles by Robert Sterling brought back all those memories for me. I enjoyed all 48 of these sonnets that talked about the emotions that a person feels when they are in love. Love can be pain, hardship, blessing, and hope and the author visits all of these and more with the sonnets. The actual length of the sonnets is not too long or too short; they are the perfect length for the reader to get lost in and digest easily. From the very first sonnet, I loved how intricate the verses were. The poems are rhythmic yet they don’t follow a scheme, which makes them all the more interesting. The author is not trying to copy the classics but giving his own spin to them, making the work unique and special.

Robert Sterling narrated the audiobook himself and I found his voice very soothing. His voice portrayed the emotions behind these sonnets brilliantly and gave them a resonance that made them extra special. I enjoyed the music that the author created himself, which really surprised me. The music added an extra layer to the sonnets, gave them character and held my rapt attention. I usually fall asleep while listening to audiobooks, but not with this one. I found myself enthralled and wide awake. I replayed the audiobook at least a dozen times in the past two days because I just simply could not get enough!

Inspired by some of the greatest writers of the past centuries, Sonnelles by Robert Sterling is an inspiration on its own. As the poets he admired had done, Sterling stepped away from the conformity and rhyming schemes of typical poetry and poured his heart into every single poem. Listening to the music composed by Sterling playing as he reads his poetry of love, romance, loss, heartbreak and sadness is an experience that will absorb any reader. Listening to the poetry in Sonnelles as Sterling speaks these emotional words brings a whole new light to love and relationships, heartbreak and longing.

Sonnelles by Robert Sterling has set normal poetic standards with systematic rhyme schemes aside and raised the bar on modern poetry to a whole new level of enjoyment. His words of love and sadness coupled with the music (also composed by Sterling) playing in the background is one of the most fascinating and wonderful ways to experience poetry. The narrator, composer, and producer is Robert Sterling. The production quality of Sonnelles is perfectly clear and sharp with absolutely no distortion or static of any kind. The balance between voice and music is achieved beautifully with neither overpowering the other. I love the way the soft music sets the mood and the way Sterling’s gentle voice makes the poetry so much more meaningful because the listener can hear the honesty and emotion he puts into every single poem.

I recommend Sonnelles to everyone; even those who do not generally read or listen to poetry are sure to love Sterling’s soothing voice as well as the music. These are poems I could listen to or read over and over again. I honestly hope that Sterling has many more poems and collections like Sonnelles waiting for his readers and listeners to enjoy.

Explore love's beautiful mystery in the moving audiobook Sonnelles by Robert Sterling. Inspired loosely by Shakespeare, this collection of forty-eight poems speaks of the joy of love gained, the sorrow of love lost, and the triumph of returned love. Tender and sweet, these little sonnets evoke the deep emotion of first love, young and innocent, to aged love, old and ripe for renewal. Written and read by the author, these sonnets are a true work of love and art. Struck by more creative inspiration, the author also composed, performed, and produced the accompanying music. Blending his voice with soft, dreamlike instrumental accompaniment, he has created a soothing ambiance in which to enjoy his lovely poems. His voice harmonizes beautifully with the music and the words flow like a gentle stream, relaxing the listener and drawing them deep into the meaning of the sonnets.

Sonnelles by Robert Sterling highlights the depth of feeling a simple sonnet can evoke; even the hardest of hearts would soften beneath Sterling's charming voice and words. The author admits to being inspired by Shakespeare but adds a modern twist to the classics. I find this poetry refreshing and less intrusive than Shakespeare's. Less limbic than that of the former, these sonnets draw you in and speak to your heart while reminding you of love's raw and very human emotions. The music is similar to tracks I've heard in meditations, enhancing a calming atmosphere. I recommend this hour-long audiobook to those looking to draw some romance into their lives.
