Fantastic! That's what I thought when I finished reading the great anthology of short stories by author Lou Di Domenico, Songs of the Northwind. With stories as varied as a crime saga, a sea-faring treasure hunting tale, and the story of a house with a dark history, this collection is sure to have a tale that will appeal to almost any reader. As a lover of short stories and collections of such tales in particular, it's wonderful to find a work that contains such disparate and unique stories that somehow fit together so well.
One of the things I like the most about short collections is that you can finish off one complete story, set the book aside, come back to it days, weeks, even months later, and pick up with a completely new tale, not having to catch up on what you read before. That's certainly true of many short story collections for me, but not quite with Songs of the Northwind. I found myself obsessively reading page after page, going from story to story until the entire book was done. Author Lou Di Domenico is clearly a person with a creative and fertile mind. The author's writing style is well-paced and, even in short works, he is able to create interesting and realistic characters that the reader will continue to think about even after the story is done. Any reader who enjoys short stories of any kind or anyone who enjoys a good work of fiction would love Songs of the Northwind. I highly recommend this book, and I will certainly keep my eye out for any new offerings by the very promising Lou Di Domenico!
