Snurkey: A Turkey’s Wish is a children’s picture book by Irma Lima with illustrations by Vidya Vasudevan. During a harsh winter, most of the animals on the farm would stay indoors, but Turkey would dance with the snowflakes and play with the snow all day long. What Turkey loved the most about winter was all the amazing snowmen on display. Turkey liked dancing around them and his biggest wish was to become one of them! Turkey wants to make his wish come true and so he tries everything he could think of to turn himself into a snowman but to no avail. Turkey then enlists the help of his furry friends to help make his dream a reality. Join Turkey and the gang on their quest to create the first-ever Snurkey!
Snurkey: A Turkey’s Wish is a heartwarming story about friendship and self-acceptance, and I had fun reading it. I liked how Irma Lima got the point across that with a good set of friends nothing is impossible. This is a life lesson that growing kids need to learn as early as possible. Another aspect that was well done was the illustrations, and the images were bursting with vivid color and details! The expressions of the animals were great and their joy and other emotions could be picked up just by looking at their faces. The story itself was a pleasure to read. This picture book ticked all the right boxes for me, as it had a fun story, had some life lessons, and the illustrations were perfect. Snurkey really touched upon the importance of good friends that have your back and that value you for who you are; flaws and all. I recommend this book to parents who want their children to not only enjoy a book but also learn from it.
