Set during the Christmas season against a snowy upstate New York background, Snow Girls by Irene Petrucci is the heartwarming story of a single mother and her three daughters, Katy, Charlotte, and Lacey. They love ice skating and sledding and, despite the setbacks they face in life, they stay bonded as a family and support each other during adversities and difficult situations. The girls love the season and the snow and they slip on their boots, put on their gloves, jackets, and hats, and go out to enjoy themselves. It's a story of love, compassion, and hope, and captures the essence of Christmas beautifully.
The book deals with difficult situations that families face in their lives and the story is also about hope and reconciliation. The messages conveyed are useful to all readers, young and old alike, and strike a chord within them. The characters and situations are relatable and palpable, and the fluidity in writing gives the story a good pace and movement. The author brings the Christmas season to life beautifully and the story also highlights the bond shared between a mother and her daughters, and how they stand by each other and support each other during their difficult times.
