Elizabeth Kirke wanted to be an author before she even knew what an author was. She used to say that she wanted to be an artist, but that was only because she was too young to write and had to tell stories with pictures instead. She hasn't stopped writing since she learned how. It wasn't long before she dreamed of becoming an author and couldn't be happier now that that dream is a reality.
If she isn't writing...well, let's be honest; if she isn't writing she's probably on Facebook thinking that she should start writing. But, if she isn't writing or on Facebook, she's probably doing something involving books, baking, gardening, or yarn. In an ideal world, she'd be reading and knitting while something from the garden is in the oven. Then again, in an ideal world, she'd have a flock of ducks and a couple of goats.

"Snow Bound" by Elizabeth Kirke is a very different kind of fantasy and magic story because the author has thrown the box of magical fantasy wide open and been able to successfully include a wide range of magical fantasy beings into the story in this fairly long 346 page book. The plot revolves around the setting up of rules of a "legal framework" aimed at regulating people who have magical powers with the presumption that such people and beings do exist! From the beginning, where the concept of a "familiar" enters the story in the magical bond between a witch Jen, who is a very normal young lady, and a cat, the book introduces many other such bonds and relationships between unlikely people as the chapters roll on. The story develops seamlessly and the action moves to a cabin in the snowy wilderness, where Jen and the rest of her group of registered magical people, meet again after a long separation which started where the first book of the Magic Series ended. Just as the group is settling down and all the magical powers of the individuals in the group have been exhibited in little events and descriptions, danger strikes in the form of a vicious Werewolf named Lyall, who is accompanied by his girlfriend with whom he has illegally bonded. To strengthen the bond he wants one of the group of friends to illegally "turn" his girlfriend by turning her into a Vampire. The story heats up when Jen's friend, who is a non magic, suddenly arrives, and Lyall becomes berserk in his attempt to get the group involved in turning his friend into a Vampire which is illegal.
Incredible events of horrific attacks and sabotage happen which grip the reader and make the book difficult to put down - I read it in a day because of this. It is a well-written book where the action never lets up and I rate this book as an excellent one in its genre.
