Author Biography

Christine is an ex-secretary, wife, mother, grandmother – and a farmer for more than 40 years, now living on and enjoying this end of her life on a retirement farm in beautiful Australia.

Her book covers say 'Author - Christine Larsen', and it's true… finally. Decades ago her written creations were shelved, in the belief that editors' rejections equalled no talent. Instead she concentrated on raising a family and meeting the various needs of farming, including successfully raising a myriad of animals, nine of which were kangaroos.
Christine has been rescuing something or someone ever since – on Lifeline telephones; adopting three 'special needs' children; in the community as a Careworker; animals from shelters; and from the Charity shops – abandoned small knitted folk.
Throughout these years she remained an avid reader and wannabe author, constantly 'moodling' about this – until, like a volcano, Christine's creative writing skills had no choice but to erupt, and here she is - working her fingers to the bone on her computer and having the time of her life.
Welcome to her world!

Small Folk Rhymes by Christine Larsen is a delightful collection of rhymes that not only stir a child’s imagination, but they teach them about different animals, foods, and even a pair of shoes. The first part is full of witty rhymes that introduce each of the animals that might be found on a farm and some of their characteristics. It is a wonderful way to teach children about farm animals. The second part stirs the imagination by asking silly questions all based around one single concept of what the child would do if certain animals were given to them as a gift. The third part is a short tale about the different ways to eat and enjoy carrots, rhyming all of the way along, of course. The book continues on with rhymes about elephants, puppies, shoes, and even echidnas, who aren't kidding. It is wrapped up with a sweet rhyme about dreaming.

All in all, Small Folk Rhymes is a very creative set of rhymes that help draw out a child's imagination. The graphic work is simple and effective and the rhymes are easily understood. Christine has an awesome talent for making things sound ridiculous yet funny and simple yet profound. To teach even the most basic concepts, there is often a struggle for the teacher to come up with a new and exciting way to capture the full attention of children. This book is able to do just that and go beyond the simple concepts to open up the doors of exploration. Anyone serious about encouraging children to read, should have a bookshelf full of her books.
