Kevin Schmidt (cheap country hick) and stand up comdian. I have been in a family farm eguipment business (Schmidt Machine) my entire life. Foxworthy says kids say the darndest things well so do farmers and 30 plus years of dealing with them has given me tons of material! My business meetings and trips in the 100's also has given me a wealth of material. I think and the review points out it is a book that is full of it and is rural humor at it's funniest. Author Kevin Schmidt, Mid-West born and bred, has created a delightful book of rural humor, some of it raw, and some of it truly funny. He shares stories and quibs about snowmobiling, eating places, tractors, raising corn and jokes about Ohio State University's rival, the University of Michigan. He teases about advertising gone wrong as when (page 58) a good-looking plumber had a business card that read "Sleeping with a drip. Call me!" and apparently he received telephone calls from far too many farmers' wives. At the book's end, he has a section called "Cheap County Hick" where the reader can determine if he/she is one by the number of "yes" answers to queries such as "if you rotate your bald tires to get another 100 miles". Author Schmidt admits he is not responsible if the reader loses weight by laughing his head off reading this book. Oh, fine!
Author Kevin Schmidt has created a book that should be somewhere in every rural house in America. City-born and bred readers will not understand the humor, but country readers certainly will, and will read and reread various pages over and over and then laugh themselves silly. The formatting needs some attention, for stories are often separated improperly, as on page 72 with the joke about the farmer's wife and the dentist. The family pictures should be clearer and sharper, as the reader will want to see a sharper picture of the beer dispenser on page 69. Otherwise, Kevin Schmidt has created a "hoot" of a little book that many besides Mid-West farmers will want to own and probably not share.
