Barrett takes readers into the landscape of high school life fraught with teens in the voyage of finding themselves, preparing for the future, or just enjoying the moments of their lives. Skyler Bram is a 15-year-old who is already eyeing to be a funeral director one day. Her life is good, even the unsuccessful relationship with Regent High’s most eligible bachelor, Bradley Harrison, is hardly a blemish. That's until she meets Becca, and their blossoming friendship leads to a revelation that Skyler may or may not be prepared to handle.
In the second book of the Little Bram Series, Barrett once again takes readers into the highs and lows of teenage years. A tracklist replaces the usual chapter titles, which I found brilliant. Whether you listen to the ‘suggested’ track before or during the reading, it will instantly give a background mood for each chapter. The bond between Skyler and her half-sister Kina is stronger than ever, helping them brace for whatever high school has in store for them. This time self-identity takes a center stage among the cheating boyfriends, estranged mother and daughter relationship, mistakes, bullying, teen crushes and much more. Youth uncertainty and anxiety are well-depicted and easily remind me of my own younger self. There's a nice twist in the end that readers will love as the characters grow through good and bad times. Simply put, Skyler’s Sophomore Soundtrack is another brilliant YA tale from Michael C. Barret.
