Sinkhole is a work of horror fiction penned by author April A. Taylor. Written for adult audiences due to highly explicit content in the language and violence elements, this diverse, visceral and exciting tale is not for the faint of heart. As strange events sweep the nation in the United States of America, it seems like Mother Nature is hell-bent on punishing humanity for its many sins. Survival becomes key, but it’s hard to keep track of reality when nature itself has turned the world upside down. Worst enemies are forced to work together or meet their doom in this multi-perspective tale that asks humanity to look at its real capabilities under pressure.
One of the great strengths of Sinkhole as a novel is its pacing, which balances just the right amount of detail in each scene before it switches to another place and time, shifting perspectives of terror and storylines with both adequate information but concise timing. This makes for a horror read where the pace never lets up and explores diverse LGBT themes as well as current political and social movements against the backdrop of utter global disaster. Author April A. Taylor builds both suspense and atmosphere well, with vivid descriptions and heated dialogue that hold tension until just the right moment. The balance between character-driven motivations and the overarching plot sits well, shifting the perspective of what a horror novel really has the potential to be. Overall, Sinkhole is an intelligent and terrifying triumph in the world of horror fiction.
