Darren Chase, who has spent over twenty years performing and recording, never felt free in his singing. Recently, he was able to master his voice and he shows how in his ebook, Singing From the Inside: A Self-Guided Primer Course in Classical Vocal Technique. Here is where he shares some of the techniques that he used for finding his voice; some of these techniques are shown on YouTube. Chase takes a route that is different from most music teachers. Instead of first teaching more vocal outward expressions, he instead focuses on more inward breathing and techniques which are similar to the breathing patterns of yoga or Pilates. If you have an interest in singing and want to be taken through the process of breathing techniques, then Singing From the Inside: A Self-Guided Primer Course in Classical Vocal Technique is a great start.
I found Singing From the Inside by Darren Chase a useful ebook because he not only goes into detail with the styles and techniques that he used to find his voice, but he helps you to understand its purpose. Chase also provides various YouTube videos to help explain the process and to make it easier for you to follow. Unless you understand and already know vocal techniques, you could become extremely confused and maybe even frustrated and not complete the lessons - but remember, to become better at it, vocal lessons take time.
As I practiced some of the techniques along with the YouTube videos, I began to relate more with the seated versus standing techniques. When seated, I was forced to focus on my breathing within a limited capacity, which caused more strength in performing the techniques versus when standing. Standing, I was able to depend upon my whole body for the energy to perform the techniques. This further reminded me of how some of the greatest singers have the ability to sing with the same vocal expression of strength and power, whether seated or standing, while I noticed others do not. If you have a desire to sing and understand how proper breathing techniques are crucial for your development, Singing From the Inside: A Self-Guided Primer Course in Classical Vocal Technique by Darren Chase is a must-have ebook.
