Simplicity: Cultivate a Life of Freedom, Focus and Joy is an inspirational self-help book written by Gretchen Stewart. Stewart is an author, inspirational speaker and the founder of Sunshine Press. She had a fulfilling and successful career as a nurse, with designer clothes filling her wardrobe, a lovely house and car, but something was definitely missing from Stewart’s life. There was always that sense of discontent, of wanting more, of feeling as though life was passing her by. When she began experiencing health issues, her need for a change in lifestyle became even more apparent. Stewart’s answer was to simplify her life. She began to wean herself off the addictive pleasures of social media and eschew the temptations of Amazon’s marketplace. As she learned to “let go” and live more simply and honestly, she began to experience life and its joys more fully than ever before. In her book, Stewart shares aspects of simplified living and shows how simplicity can be relative to every aspect of life. She also includes Letters of Triumph by others who have embraced Simplicity, and a concise listing of Simplicity Principles.

In Simplicity: Cultivate a Life of Freedom, Focus and Joy, Gretchen Stewart shares how she was able to turn her life around by making changes. Some of those changes seem easy to put into practice, while others are a bit more challenging. I appreciated the personal input Stewart weaves throughout her book. Her fearless and frank approach is certainly an inspiration, and the manner in which her material is presented makes adapting her ideas a progressive and relatively effortless process. I especially enjoyed reading the letters of those who’ve benefited from her approach and find the list of Simplicity Principles to be quite useful. This summary helps to drive home the ideas presented in the book, and having them all listed together is a handy reference guide for those times when things definitely do not seem simple. Simplicity: Cultivate a Life of Freedom, Focus and Joy is a well-written and engaging call to action, and it’s most highly recommended.
